Drumroll … Big Reveal … it’s the cover for my new book!
It’s very exciting to finally be able to share with you the cover of ‘How to Fall in Love with the Future’ which will be published June 17th by Chelsea Green Publishing. We were feeling a bit stuck with ideas for the cover, with a couple of ‘ok but not WOW’ options, when my copy of the excellent Pressing Matters magazine arrived, which celebrates the best printmakers in the world. It’s an essential subscription. Anyway, in there, in an article about Weston-super-Mare based lino cut artist Aga Kubish, was this beautiful, incredibly detailed large format lino print she did of the circular staircase at Kew Gardens:
It was love at first sight. As you will see when the book comes out, it fits perfectly with the opening of the book. The only issue was that it was black and white, and we wanted a strikingly colourful cover. We reached out to Aga, who was very enthusiastic about our using the image, and who offered to colourise it herself. She did a few different options, but the one we loved the most was this one:
Isn’t that gorgeous? So, at the top of this post is the final artwork. It took us a while to get there, but I hope you’ll agree it was worth sticking with it. The cover needed to capture a future worth falling in love with, and I think we’ve achieved that. As soon as we have pre-order information for the book, I’ll add it here.
